For Real This Time

Back in March, I gave notice that I would be taking down short stories posted on my blogs and republishing them on Amazon. For various reasons, that didn’t happen yet. But it will happen soon.

I’m going to be away from my computers for the whole week next week, but after that, we get started. As promised back in March, I’ll be taking the stories down from my blogs and republishing them at Amazon. For the first five days they’re back up at Amazon, they’ll be available for free download. After that, they’ll be free through Kindle Unlimited.

Stay tuned.

A friend from Slacktivist writes one of the most terrifying dystopias I’ve ever read. Terrifying because this is the dystopia that some the Kochs, the Mercers and others of our billionaire overlords are working toward right now (after all, to them it’s a paradise).

Also terrifying because this is an oppressive dystopia that doesn’t even need to use the brute force tactics of a totalitarian government. No death squads, no torture chambers, no Thought Police (though there is a hell of a Memory Hole). Everyone is their own jailer.

Found a Marvelous Story: Cat Pictures Please

A few days ago, I was reading Amanda Marcotte’s Salon column on the alt-right hijacking of the Hugo Awards, and it quite naturally mentioned some of the winners.  There was actually a link to the winner of the short stories category, Cat Pictures Please by Naomi Kritzer, so I took a look.  You should too. It’s a heartwarming little story about an AI that just wants to help, and thinks the greatest things humans ever created was cat pictures.  I finished it in the time it took me to take the subway home, so it’s just a quick, satisfying little literary snack that richly deserves the award it won.
